Pimp My Popscicle

The days are officially feeling longer, the sun a lot warmer, and my body quickly decaying from the lack of rest.  Summer, for real this time is in full effect.   For the past weeks SoCal's had splotchy bi-polar weather, playing the indecisive card between an extended June gloom and a July summer heat wave; however, that seems long gone as the heat is packing on and I load up on the sunblock and start cooling down with cool treats.

This weekend I went to a pretty impressive and innovative ice cream shop in West Covina called The Ice Bar .  The popsicles are all made in shop, and custom designed with flavor according to one's preference, or "house style" which is the preference of one's popsicle gastronome.  I along with my cousin's all opted for the house style:

Strawberry Mango Bar drizzled with Chili Lime and Mint

Strawberry and Cream Bar with Dusted Pie Crust

Nutella and Banana Bar With Banana Chips

Blueberry and Korean Pear Bar with Lemon Thyme

The concept itself is pretty interesting and a nice take on custom ice cream bars.  I was particularly a fan of the Nutella Banana and Strawberry Mango bars.  After devouring our bars, we each got back in line and got waffles cones like the fatties we are.   I must say, they had the best espresso ice cream I have ever had.  It was rich and creamy, and was refreshing for a coffee based treat.

They also had a lychee flavored ice cream that was closer to a sorbet but super fresh and cool, perfect to cleanse a pallet after something heavy.  The Ice Bar is a cool treat and doing pretty well for only being open for three weeks.  Best of luck to the super friendly staff and owner, and find out more about them here: http://www.the-ice-bar.com/.

Stay cool, and cheers!
