Slushy Goodness

...Pitaya what?

My reaction exactly when I was given the choice between a pitaya bowl or an acai bowl at Birdie Bowl and Juicery in Costa Mesa.  Birdie Bowl is this cute, obviously hipstered out (of which I do not mind at all) juicery at the OC Mart Mix that caters to the juice savvy and health conscious with their healthy bowls of acai and pitaya amongst other cool refreshing goods that are topped off with bomb granola and fresh fruits.  Their juices are 100% cold hydraulic pressed and use only the best in local raw, organic and live produce.  Unlike conventional juicing that uses a lot of friction which causes heat and the juice to lose its nutritional value, Birdie's use of cold press juicing slows down the oxidation time allowing the juice to maintain much of its nutrients and allowing a longer shelf life if refrigerated properly with the most crisp of taste.

I ended up opting for the pitaya bowl, which is pretty much pink dragon fruit magically transformed into slushy goodness!  I haven't quite figured out what it was that I ate considering I was expecting yogurt, but to my pleasant surprise it was more of a cool slush with a thicker and creamier consistency that was super refreshing to my morning palette.  Along side my bowl I also got a mini "Pure Green"  juice consisting of kale, spinach, celery, cucumber, cilantro, and cucumber.

Like pretty much everything you can find inside the OC Mart Mix, prices were pretty high-- The bowl was about $9 although super filling, and my mini, MINI, mini juice was $5, of which I think I could have done without, or maybe opted for one of their other choices.

In the end, with great company comes great experiences, and I am happy to say I had the best foodie with me all day that day which made my experience at Birdie that much better.  Definitely going to be heading back to Birdie soon--I want me some more pitaya!

Until then, Chuuurrs!
